Labeling
This activity lets the student drag labels onto an image.
- From the Insert menu, choose "Activity" then "Labeling"
- Click on the Help tab for instructions.
- When you are assigning the labels you will drag both the circles (that identify the correct positions) and the boxes (where the student will drag the label) onto the picture. The box can be offset from the circle for clarity.
- Caution: If you change the text of any of the labels and then you will have to place all the labels again

Hot Spot
A Hot Spot activity lets students move their mouse over a picture and get information.
- From the Insert menu, choose "Activities" then "Hot Spot"
- The tools for creating this activity can be a little confusing at first. See below for more instructions.
- The text "popups" can be different shapes - the only one that lets you write more than a little text is "large text box"

Creating a Hot Spot activity
- Import your image using the "Select Image" button
- Click on the "Map Image" button
For each hotspot (active area) in the image you will need to color the areas that are hotspots and then add text.

These are the tools used to paint the image:

There are five tools (in the top row)
- The Pencil Tool: use this to paint a hotspot - the size of the pencil is set using the squares on the bottom row
- The Polygon Tool: looks like a fountain pen tip. Use this to draw an area by clicking on points around the edge.
- Eraser tool: use this to delete some or all of a hotspot - again the size is determined by the squares in the bottom row.
- The Fill tool (Paint bucket): Fills in any contiguous areas which have not already been selected.
- The Selection Tool (Hand): use this to select a hotspot after it is created.
For a new image you will
- Click the File button in the "Select Image" box and upload an image
- Select the Pencil tool (click on the pencil) or the Polygon tool (click on the pen) and draw a hotspot area. Draw with the pencil or click at points around an area with the Polygon. You can use either tools to add to the area. You can also outline an area with the pencil and then use the paint bucket to fill it in.
- Use the Eraser tool to adjust if needed
- Type text in the Enter Hotspot Text area
- Click the Next button to continue
- Repeat for the remaining Hotspot areas
To modify or edit a hotspot after it is created
- Click on the Select tool (Hand)
- Click on the color that represents that area to choose it
- Now you can use the Pencil, Polygon, Paint or Eraser tool to modify the area or you can edit the text in the Textbox.
- Use the Select tool again to choose a different hotspot area
The type of "Popup" (Square Caption, Balloon, etc.) you choose to show the text applies to the entire activity - you cannot use different ones for different areas.
